** June 22, 2008 Cedar Grove Lodge, Kings Canyon, CA - getting ready for our hike.

We drove down to Cedar Grove Lodge at a lower elevation (about 4,500 feet) where Peter would spend the next couple of days.

The Lodge is somewhat rustic, but very comfortable with a reasonably priced restaurant close by.  As Peter was not going on our 12 mile hike into Bearpaw, he stayed behind at the lodge for a little vacation of his own.

The website tells us it is “nestled in a mile-deep canyon section of Kings Canyon, … located deep in the heart of Kings Canyon National Park. … breathtaking views from the lodge deck overlooking the powerful Kings River. …  The lodge also boasts an excellent location for visitors who want to explore the Kings Canyon backcountry.”

That afternoon we took a wee hike down to the bank of the river (South Fork of the Kings River), where I had marvelous views of the crystal clear waters,
